Pre-ARRIVAL

important information

Once you decide to move to Canada, it's up to you to determine what you want to bring. Several thighs you can carry depend on your immigration status, financial abilities, previously arranged accommodation and many other factors. Moving to Canada from your country of origin may bring your items and ship household goods without paying duty.

But you will have to pay duty on any item you get that has not been used. A duty is a fee that the government charges on some goods when they enter Canada. To avoid misunderstandings at the port of entry, please follow the rules created by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada and Canada Border Service Agency.

Collect all essential original documents that belong to you and your family members who are also immigrating.

Some standard documents include:

• Passports or travel documents

• All education diplomas and certificates

• Official vaccination records

• Medical records

• Dental and eye records

• Driver’s licences

• Birth and death certificates

• Marriage or divorce certificates
